To know what costs are really associated with a project it is necessary to look further than just the investment costs. The calculation of the lifetime costs, also known as LCC, life cycle cost or life cycle costing, includes all amounts that are also involved after completion and during the use of a project.

Longevity costs are not just about the investment costs, but also about the costs once a building, bridge or station has been built. Such as the management and maintenance costs, but also the energy costs, the costs for demolition, cleaning and maintenance. Calculation of lifetime costs prevents setbacks
